For a Better Right and Left

I don't want to beat the Republicans or Democrats. I want them both to get better.

One way to measure partisanship is to look at how you feel when the other team takes on a position that is both good and electorally useful.

If you're on the left how do you feel when Republicans come around to gay marriage? Are you glad that they're more correct or do you feel threatened because it makes them more electorally viable?

If you're on the right how do you feel when Democrats say we need borders? Are you glad they're more correct or do you feel threatened because it makes them more electorally viable?

How do you feel when the other side makes a gaffe? Are you disappointed that they're not making their side the best it can be?

We shouldn't want to beat the other side, we should want them to be good enough that we are them. For once wouldn't it be nice if we could not have to vote for the lesser evil and instead be able to vote for the greater good?
